Morgan County, Illinois Cemetery Headstones

[All pictures were taken by Lonnie Decker on March 30, 2010]

Cemetery Inscriptions are from the cemetery listing on Rootsweb for Morgan County, Illinois, as retrieved 3/17/2010.  Each cemetery listing was viewed for Decker entries to compile a list of the cemeteries that I visited on 3/30/2010.

In addition, burial records were provided during my visit to Jacksonville East and Diamond Grove cemeteries in Jacksonville, Illinois.  I owe those guys a lot of thanks for providing additional records and assisting me in finding the individual graves.

The following list will include the Decker records found on Rootsweb, those provided by the cemetery, and the headstone picture & inscription information (each as available) in the order visited.  Click on the picture to view a larger size.  Pictures have been uploaded as approximately 800x600 pixel photos - originals are 2832x2128 pixels, and are available if necessary.  Pictures will open in a new window.

Jacksonville East Cemetery - Myrtle St., Jacksonville, Illinois (Google map)

I had a great deal of assistance here, both in verifying my list of Decker graves as well as actually locating the graves themselves.  This is a very large cemetery, so their assistance was invaluable.  I have included information from both sources (the Rootsweb site as well as the cemetery) and the gravestone information.

Note:  First row information contains data from Rootsweb site, including a means to locate the grave from that site.  Second row contains data from the cemetery records on file which, and location that matches the plot records.  Third row contains the inscription.

Diamond Grove Cemetery - southwest corner of the city, directly south and next to Calvary Catholic Cemetery, and across the road from Immanuel East Cemetery (Google Map)

Also includes Immanuel East (across road), Immanuel West (rear section), and Calvary (adjacent) Cemeteries.

Again I had a great deal of help at this cemetery.  I arrived shortly before 4:00 knowing that they would be leaving soon (information learned from Jacksonville East), so I figured that I would start looking.  After all, I had a map and basic idea where the graves were that I was looking for.  No bother... they flagged me down and convinced me to go into the office, where they provided me with names and maps that guided me to within about 10 feet of the location of each grave.  This was much better.

Note:  First row information contains data from Rootsweb site, including a means to locate the grave from that site.  Second row contains data from the cemetery records on file which, and location that matches the plot records.  Third row contains the inscription.
