Sussex County, New Jersey Cemetery Headstones

(Wantage and Montague Townships)

[All pictures were taken by Lonnie Decker on October 10, 2010]

In preparation for this trip, cemetery inscriptions were initially derived from Nancy Pascal's Genealogy Page (at the Sussex Co NJ Historical Society) as retrieved in September, 2010.  This list was then supplemented by records as posted on Find A Grave to provide a combined list of graves to look for.  Each cemetery listing was viewed for Decker entries to compile a list of the cemeteries that I visited on 10/10/2010.

The following list includes the Decker records found on the mentioned websites, and the headstone picture & inscription information (each as available) in the order visited.  Click on the picture to view a larger size.  Pictures have been uploaded as approximately 800x600 pixel photos - originals are 2832x2128 pixels, and are available if desired.  Pictures will open in a new window.

See a map of Sussex County, New Jersey - Circa 1865.  It was helpful in determining where I wanted to visit.  Also, see the map of my approximate route through Wantage & Montague Townships, mapping the cemeteries that were visited for this project (Google map with route mapped & cemetery locations marked).

Begin Wantage Township, Sussex Co., New Jersey Cemeteries (with Decker graves listed)

Van-Fleet Burying Ground - Quarry Rd, just south of Unionville Rd.  It took me a couple of times driving by before I found this small cemetery, at the end of a field there's a small road/path leading up to the cemetery on a small hill.  (Google Map)

This cemetery was found to be not well maintained, with many stones either missing or illegible.
