My Journey:

 Back
April 29, 2005

What a month this has turned out to be.  It all started out innocently enough.

At the beginning of April I was well under way with the migration of this site to a new web server (new account, new service, everything) at Yahoo.  The end result is 20 times the storage for less money.  Then, it was just a simple matter of moving everything to the new service - but not everything went that smoothly.  First, the new service does not allow spaces in file names - not too difficult of a fix, just inconvenient.  Then I also figured out that my FrontPage based search tool & guest book would not work.  The solution for the guest book was to migrate to the one provided, now giving me a history of three different guest books that I have used for this site.  Then I find out that the search tool provided (as my alternative) will only search the main folder of the site (and that didn't even work).  So I signed up for FreeFind, which does a nice job and provides some interesting information.  Migration complete.  Now, maybe someday I should start working on a site redesign.  Someday.

Well, the second thing to post on here is that the third floor remodeling project seems to be nearing completion, but has run into a dead stop - due to my inadvertent fall onto the stairs while working on the ceiling, resulting in two broken ribs.  This was almost two weeks ago, so maybe pretty soon I can get back to sanding the wood putty & put the final touches on the ceiling.  Carefully.

I also got news this month that I am going to be a grandfather - probably in December.  I hadn't given the idea too much thought, especially with it being an extra reminder of my own personal aging (well, it is called 'my journey').  But I am proud, and looking forward to it.

Finally, by the end of this month I'll be living single, which comes at a good time for me personally as it'll give me plenty of time for me to start writing my Comprehensive Exams (over the next three months) followed by the dissertation.  Hopefully by this time next year, I'll have completed my doctorate.  Then maybe I'll be able to get around to redesigning this website.
