My Journey:

March 24, 2005

Where did the month go?

First off, I had a wonderful time in Mexico.  I see Kyle (my son) has posted to my guestbook, requesting pictures of my trip be posted on the site.  Ah... what can I say.  I'm running out of space.  Shortly I'm planning on upgrading to a different hosting service within Yahoo!, necessitating that the website will be down for a short period.  But afterward, I'll have tons more storage, and be spending less money.

What can I say about Mexico?  I loved it.  We were about 2 hours south of Cancun, at the Grand Palladium Resort.  The weather was beautiful (topping out at about 90 degrees each day).  We ate a lot of great food, shopped in Playa del Carmen, went snorkeling for a day, and made a short visit to the Tulum ruins.  But it was very enjoyable to not worry about work, school, home, or even the weather we missed (two snowstorms back in Michigan) while we were away.  And I'll upload pictures as soon as the web migration takes place.

Speaking of school, I'm proud to say that I've now finished my last actual course toward gaining my Ph.D.  Now it's on to the last two challenges, the Comprehensive Exams and the Dissertation.  The next four months I'll be working on the exam phase, meanwhile thinking about (and planning) for the next & last stage.  But finishing coursework feels like a wonderful accomplishment.  At least for now.

I'm having a lot of fun at work.  No, honest.  I'm always very busy, it seems, especially with developing curriculum and keeping the university's Computer Networking programs up-to-date.  The technology is always changing, and I need to keep up with the trends.  These days that means security training - and it looks as though I may be busy this summer with training and conferences.  Received word this week that appears as though I've got $240,000 worth of networking equipment donated toward teaching security classes at Davenport.  I am looking forward to having this available, as are my students.
