Emma H Finch

Parents names are listed as James Finch and Emeline Halstead. I previously had Emma's name as Halstead, but current source has listed as Finch with mother Halstead. (My presumption is a confusion between Emma's last name with that of her mother).

Marriage information for Zoe in 1919 lists her mother as Emma Halstead.

Current information matches with that listed on Death Certificate.

Also:
Saturday, November 30, 1895: C. W. Decker received word Monday of the death of his wife's brother, Loren C. Finch at Ispheming. The deceased was at one time a resident of Adrian removing fom here about twelve years ago to Ispheming. He leaves besides a sister, Mrs. Clark Decker, two bothers, on residing in Rome and one in Kansas. The funeral will be held at Rome Baptist Church. (page 1)

Saturday, June 2, 1894 (page 3, column 4) - The new principal of the Palmyra Schools is Ernest Dersham, of Ridgeway, with Mary Hunteon, of Blissfield as assistant. One of the good things about Palmrya people is that they soon make lawyers of their principals. The last one they had, Bert Hart, has made preparation to spend the next year in the law department at Ann Arbor.

It appears that Zoe has not aged since the 1920 census. All prior census listings show her to be born about 1869, including 1870 census when she was 1. This would preclude her ability to be 51 in 1930, rather 61. The census clearly shows her age to be 51, and first married at age 41, in 1930.

859. Minard Decker

Evidence of Jacob P. Decker suggests that he had a son Minard Decker, born about 1818 by an (possibly) unknown first wife of Jacob P. Decker.

Minard is listed in the 1875 census with Rachel Converse, listed as "brother"

The funeral of Mr. Minard Decker was held in the M.E. Church, Monday, forenoon. The deceased was found dead in bed on Saturday morning, at the residence of his sister, Mrs. Winne.

[Saturday would refer to June 8, 1895, the date given on the headstone. Official record might have determined that he died in his sleep, or the last time seen alive was June 7.]

Minard is insribed on back of headstone for Jacob & Sarah Decker

860. Minard Decker

Previously unproven child of Michael & Elizabeth, derived on information from several sources. His name is likely Michael Minard Decker, based on the will of his grandfather Phillip Warner.

Current records leave little doubt, based on Civil War letters that were exchanged amongst family members that coincide with information that is givin in the pension record for Minard, namely his wife & children, who were residing in Shandaken, and the fact that Angeline Decker is listed in both places (Berne & Shandaken) in 1860 and referenced in one of the letters.

Civil War records suggest that Lucius H & Minard Decker were brothers, both killed at Gettysburg.

1830 & 1840 Census records list an extra male and an extra female child living in the household not accounted for.

Ancestry Plus: Civil War Record:

From Census Information - Analysis of Family Members
Starting with the 1860 Census:

Albany Co., Berne (p 29 enum. June 22, 1860)

Michael Decker 66 M Carpenter
Elizabeth Decker 56 F
Wesley Decker 23 M Farm Laborer
Lodema Decker 18 F
Angeline Decker 15 F
William Decker 13 M
(All born NY)

Ulster Co., Shandaken (p 154 enum. Aug 8, 1860)

Minard Decker 36 M Day Laborer
Catherine 34 F (cannot read or write)
Mary A. 4 F
Alice A. 2 F
Lovena A. 4/12 F
Angeline 15 F Domestic
(All born NY)

Here it seems that Angeline was counted twice. The
enumerations were about 6 weeks apart, so it is
possible. I have seen nothing about Michael after the
1860 census, so perhaps something happened about this
time. (Angeline would be Minard's sister.)

1870 Census, New York, Ulster Co., Shandaken (p 42)

Decker, Catherine 44 F Keeping House
Augusta 14 F (cannot read/write)
Alice 12 F
Denie 10 M
Delie 8 F
(All born NY)

1880 Census, New York, Ulster Co., Shandaken (p 7)

Decker, Catherine F 55 Keeping House (cannot write)
Idelia F 18 At Home
(Strangely, although Idelia is marked as single,
Catherine is marked as Married)
(All born NY)

In 1850, Catherine does show up in Shandaken with her
parents (p 213):

John Eggnor 56 M Farmer
Maria 51 F
William 27 M Farmer - idiotic
Catherine 24 F
James 19 M Farmer - attended school within year
Phillip 16 M
Charles 8 M
Evert Townsend 16 M

Interestingly, there is an entry for Minarel Decker
for 1850 in Shandaken (p 211):

Peter M. Boice 35 M Farmer
Annie? E. 34 F
Harriet 13 F
Samuel 11 M
Minarel Decker 24 M
(Looking closely, the el could be a sloppy d. You
would expect that Minard would be 25-26 in this
census, but as he was not living with family, it could
be incorrect)

What ties this all together is the 1830 Census for
Michael in Berne, which lists 5 people as members of
the household
1 male under 5 (presumably Samuel, born c. 1825)
1 male 5-10 (would have to be Minard, born c. 1824)
1 male 30-40 (Michael, born 1793)
1 female under 5 (Unknown daughter?)
1 female 20-30 (Elizabeth, born 1804)

Living with Peter M Boice

1850 US Census, Ulster Co., Shandaken (211)

Peter M. Boice 35 M Farmer
Annie E " 34 F
Harriet " 13 F
Samuel " 11 M
Minarel Decker 24 M

(Note: the el in Minarel appears to actually be a loosely written letter d)
Age shows 24, should be 25-26 for birth in 1824
